There is again speculation about the city-owned Whaling City Golf Course being home to a resort casino.

An attorney for the city has informed the State Gaming Commission that one of the sites being considered for casino development in New Bedford is owned by the city. And its been previously reported that Foxwoods has expressed an interest in the golf course site.

Golfer Mike Camara of Dartmouth was on the course on Friday, and would like to see the casino go elsewhere....

A management team currently holds a 99-year lease on the golf course, but the land itself is owned by the city.

Mayor Jon Mitchell said this week, he expected the talks with developers would pick up again, now that state residents have voted down an attempt to repeal the Mass. Casino Law.
