Happy Wet Nose Wednesday! Let's talk animals.

It's a heartbreaking truth that there are hundreds of animals on the SouthCoast looking for a good home. Many of these animals have been rescued and put under the care of amazing shelters, but the last step is finding these pets a place to call home.

Every Wednesday, we give one lucky animal the spotlight in hopes of uniting them with the perfect family. This week, we head to New Bedford where a 5-year-old dog is learning how to love again after a rough start in life.

Lighthouse Animal Shelter

Meet Patch, a 5-year-old mixed breed residing at Lighthouse Animal Shelter in New Bedford. When he arrived at the shelter, he was incredibly thin and in rough shape, but thanks to the care of Lighthouse, Patch is coming around.

Patch likes to be close to his people for cuddling and kisses, and he loves a good game of fetch.

"He knows how to sit and should learn fun new tricks quickly," the shelter said, noting he's food-motivated. Who isn't?!

The shelter recommends no small children in the household, but teens are OK, and Patch will need his future home to be patient with him as he tackles his fear of crate training.

He had a rough start, but with the right family, this lover boy will be the ultimate best friend.

Does Patch sound like a good fit for you and your family? Contact Lighthouse Animal Shelter, like them on Facebook, and schedule a play date today.

Patch cannot wait to meet you.
