As Hurricane Milton barrels toward Florida, Vanessa and Josh Small of Hassenegk Acres in Westport are leading a heartfelt effort to send much-needed supplies to affected residents.

With the storm expected to cause severe damage, the couple has taken to social media, rallying their community to donate essential items.

Vanessa shared an emotional plea on Facebook, asking for donations to fill a trailer bound for Florida by Thursday. The requested items include water, tarps, non-perishable food, gas cans and supplies for both children and pets.

"ANYTHING helps!" Vanessa urged.

Items in need:

  • Water
  • Tarps
  • Non-Perishable Food
  • Wipes
  • Gas Cans
  • Pet Food
  • Tools
  • Diapers, Formula, Bottles
  • Clothing
  • Blankets

Small explained the urgency behind their mission.

"We have friends, family, and citizens down there who need our help more than ever. Watching the devastation unfold breaks our hearts, and we knew we had to step in," she said.

The supplies will be transported by a family member who runs Southwest Florida Excavation, a business based in Florida. In addition to delivering the goods, he will assist with cleanup efforts in North Port and Port Charlotte for two to six weeks.

Hassenegk Acres, a fourth-generation farm located on Horseneck Road, is deeply rooted in the Westport community. Vanessa and Josh have expanded their family’s legacy by selling specialty cuts of beef, whole chickens and various farm products.

“To us, this isn’t a business – it’s a passion for farming,” Small explained.

With their farm’s strong sense of purpose, the Smalls are once again proving their dedication to both their local and extended communities, urging everyone to come together in the face of disaster.

For those who wish to contribute, donations can be arranged by contacting Vanessa at (774) 264-4462.
