Here is yet another example of taking a European vacation without ever getting on a plane or actually leaving New England. The Ocean House in Westerly has brought back its extremely popular Gondola Village, giving snow bunnies everything they love about the French Alps right in Rhode Island.

When the Gondola Village first opened at the Ocean House in the winter of 2019, the reaction was instant. People loved the concept of cozying up inside vintage ski gondolas for a private dining experience that brought the flavors of the Swiss Alps much closer to home.

Now back for another year of epic outdoor dining, the Ocean House has moved things about 200 kilometers north to the French Alps this season. Same amazing gondolas, different dining experience.

Once again, you can snuggle up for private dining in one of their three vintage gondolas that have been decked out with hardwood interiors, antler chandeliers, large, furry pillows and, of course, tables for dining – but that dining is a little different.

The French Alps menu features a four-course meal that includes brie flambé and boeuf bourguignon. That sounds much better than the Swiss cheese fondue and Swiss barley soup of the last Gondola Village experience.

Not to mention, there is a now an après ski pre-dinner menu that offer champagne and oysters before you wander to reserved chairs by the fire pit and watch the sunset on the water. It's a perfect proposal spot for anyone looking to pop the question this winter.

So for those who love the vibe of the French Alps, but don't have the time or money for a full-on European vacation, no worries. Ocean House in Westerly has clearly got you covered this winter.
