This Weird Massachusetts Law Takes Aim at Annoying Nighttime Habit

The laws in Massachusetts are vast and cover all aspects of life. It’s safe to say that some of the laws are strange and unusual.

At some point in the 234 years that Massachusetts has been a state, lawmakers decided to put several laws into action that will leave you scratching your head, and one, in particular, seems to be a complete invasion of privacy.

For me, curiosity struck when I came across this TikTok. The TikToker shared that it’s illegal to leave your window open if you snore at night.

So, I decided to do some digging, and it looks like he’s not wrong. A quick Google search verified the TikToker's claim, and snoring is actually prohibited unless all bedroom windows are closed and securely locked.

At some point, there was a person who snored loudly enough that it led one or several lawmakers to outlaw open windows for chronic snorers.

I doubt this quirky law is being enforced because I have a feeling it would be met with lots of opposition.

Imagine waking up to someone outside your bedroom, yelling at you to close your window because you're sawing wood too loudly. I think trespassing is a worse offense than snoring.

And the odd laws don’t stop at snoring.

According to Chapter 89 Section 9, stopping at red lights is not required by law unless they are flashing. That one seems problematic.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, it’s against the law to hang a vending machine on a utility pole.

So many weird laws, so little time, but thanks to this TikTok user, I’ll be going down the rabbit hole of odd laws across the country.
