Wednesday is the fifth annual Walk And Bike To School Day in New Bedford. Its a program that encourages kids to join with their parents and walk to school.

However in some New Bedford schools, teachers are joining students in walking to school everyday. Julie Kantner of Mass In Motion-New Bedford says the program is called the Walking School Bus.

According to Kantner, staff members help students get to school safely, while "the students get some of their energy out and get some physical activity in their day."

Kantner says "the students also get a chance to meet other students and get to know their teachers a little better."

The Walking School Bus idea is already up and running at the Parker Elementary School, and is kicking off Wednesay at the Casmir Pulaski School in the North End.
