Two Wareham boaters who left town to go fishing late Sunday afternoon and got lost, ran out of gas and washed up on a nearly deserted part of naushon island were rescued Monday afternoon. Coast Guard Chief Justin Longval, whose Woods Hole crew found the two men, ages 41 and 21, shivering on the north part of the island that is part of the town of Gosnold. Coast Guard officials said the two men, whom they declined to identify, left the Tempest Knob Marina in Wareham around 4 p.m. Sunday in a 16-foot, aluminum Lund, heading into seas that have been rough for several days thanks to tropical storm Leslie churning east of bermuda. The girlfriend of one of the men recieved a text message that they were lost and out of gas.The Coast Guard alerted harbormasters to the missing boaters around 10 Monday morning and sent out three boats and a helicopter. Towns including Marion and Wareham, where police tracked the last signal from the cellphone, assisted in the search but found nothing.
