Thank you for deciding to volunteer with us this summer, helping students develop social-emotional literacy and also slow the slump that many at-risk children enter into during the summer. Studies show that students can lose nearly a grade level of literacy progress over the course of one summer if not engaged in literacy activities like the ones we are providing in this program. By utilizing the Summer Lunches in the Park program in Fall River, we are hoping to target as many children as possible with this program.

Each park has a slightly different lunch distribution time, but the volunteer shift will be between 11:30-1:00 for approximately 45 minutes. Local young adult volunteers will be serving the meals to the children who participate. As lunch concludes, volunteers will encourage children to participate in the SEL and literacy program.

In this program, brief SEL games were compiled for the children to play after lunch time. We have also compiled a series of books relating to SEL and diversity. All supplies and the rules for the SEL game will be provided for you, as will the texts for reading.

Volunteers will be contacted with an official sign up form, CORI form, and waivers once they have signed up through Volunteer Southcoast. Using this form, volunteers will pick the dates and locations they are able to volunteer
