Um, the Massachusetts State Ballot Law Commission, uh, determined that um, Ann Manning Martin, who was also running for lieutenant governor under uh, endorsed by Mike Manoke, and the attorney general candidate for the Republicans, Michael Walsh, they will not be on the September ballot uh, following yesterday's ruling by the commission that found they did not gather the required amount of signatures. That leaves uh current city councelor in New Bedford, Sean Oliver, as the only lieutenant governor candidate for the Republican party. Now, he's running with shortsleeve. Uh but I wonder how that affects the campaigning against Mike Manugg because he may be working with him should Mike Manugg become the next governor. Does that now change how Shawn Oliver approaches this campaign? Um I I would think he might want to temper some of the criticism of Manog if he's been firing anything, but um you know, he responded saying that this was because he was one of the one of the people that made sure this this happened that they the signatures weren't met and uh and she was eliminated. Uh he was an advocate for that decision. And uh the Boston Herald saying uh he celebrated the ruling which will now see him face off against uh Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll for the uh of the Democrats in November after originally running against U. Manning Martin, who's now off the ballot. She's appealing the decision, by the way, but she's off the ballot for now because of her failure to get uh 5,000 signatures. Now, she was defrauded. If you if you um if you know about this this guy Bronky, Joe Bronky out of Weimoth was promising he's got tons of signatures and he I think he charged 35 grand or whatever it was. Um and there's they're saying he defrauded both of these candidates by handing in bogus signatures. I mean, if you can sit there and sign thousands of names, I mean, you can when you can't stand outside of a supermarket and actually get there, it's not that big a deal. You get 35,000, you can't pay enough people to go and get signatures. It's It's kind of easy. Yeah, it's hard, but you got to put the time in. They were paid well to get the to do this. Yeah. You only Yeah. For lieutenant governor, you only needed 5,000, I think. Right. Yeah, Ken. Yeah. I think statewide 5,000. So, so you pay you pay you pay a guy to Oh, I'm sorry. 10,000. So, 10,000 signatures. So, you pay a guy It was a company, right, Ken? Yeah. And here's the thing. You should get twice the amount you need. Yeah. You should get Chris McCarthy taught me that. If you need 10, you should get 20. Yeah. I mean, it's people that do campaigns know know this as a, you know, 101, but you know, McCarthy taught me a long time ago, your goal should be twice the signatures because they're going to be challenged and you need to have like more than enough. She came out with 10,662 certified. So, that's barely over the threshold. And the um comment the election commission said the camp I'm sorry the ballot um commission said in its decision adding that 1,279 of these signatures submitted by Manny Martin could not be certified disqualifying her from the ballot. What were you saying? No, I was I was going to ask you how many how many signatures were defrauded on hers? Well, 10,600. So you're talking 1,279. she so she was in need of another 700 signatures once that was um once those the 1279 uh were determined to be uncertifiable uh she she again if if she had come close to getting twice it it would be a non-issue but um Ken you you said she's appealing that decision. Yeah, I I don't think she when is that? I it's got to be coming up quick because this has to be decided because the primary is in September, right? No, it has it's going to be it'll be expedited and we're in and we're in June. So, u Miss Brensley further noticed that some of the names on her nomination p pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap pap papers which also appeared on the spreadsheet were for voters who had died before her date before the date of her nomination. Um Shawn Oliver had filed as an objector against demanding Martin while Adam Roof representing the Massachusetts Democratic Party filed on his own and the uh commission granted Roof and Oliver the right to combine their cases into one during the hearing. ROF filed as the sole objected to Walsh appearing on the ballot. again he's the AG candidate and the Republican signature sniff who all started when Brensley pronounced that she had announced that she had been defrauded by Republican consultant Joe Bronky of Weimoth. Yeah. So um Wal Walsh Walsh said he's going to run as a he's he's going to do a um writing campaign K. That's what I heard. I don't know if that's true. Bronzky was collecting signatures primarily in the Southshore and metro south areas like Wayamoth, Hanover, Brainree, Rockland, Eastn. And one of his updates, he said, "We are officially at 6,23 signatures for Anne Brenley. I project we're going to be turning in a grand total of 7,000 new new signatures." He told the campaign on April 30th in an email. He also sent them uh this correspondence. I also received a deposit for $5,000 yesterday, bringing the total to 15,000 received by the campaign so far. We are outstanding with 15,000 as of today with 7,000 signatures. You are looking at approximately $35,000 in grand total. Bradley's campaign told the Boston Herald that Bronky sent the 15,000 he collected back after the fraud concerns were raised. The Herald reached out to Bronky, and when I say the Herald, I mean one of our own who's graduated on to the Boston Herald, Tim Dunn, uh doing another great job here. Bronky has not responded uh predictably to the Boston Herald. What a farce. That's That's not good. No. So, and I don't that should be Sean Oliver's position to challenge it. I mean, that's what you do and and at at this time is signatures are everything. You know, you can't lose if the other person doesn't have enough signature. So, for, you know, a neutral observer, you'd be a fool not to challenge that, right? So, he made sure that um the person without enough signatures is not going to be on the ballot. I don't see where she goes with this. I I understand she was defrauded, but look, you nobody made you choose this guy to to get your signatures. You did this on your own. And I again, I you need 10,000 signatures. He barely crossed the line. 662 votes over. That's you know, I mean, a consultant like Chris McCarthy would have said, "No, we need way more than that." Yeah. you need twice as a Yeah, I'm a little surprised that um I don't know how much he does, but I would think McCarthy should have a bigger role in in campaigns. He's a very smart guy when it comes to that stuff. I don't know why people don't u offer him campaign manager stuff. I don't even know if he'd be interested at this point, you know, with all everything that's going on in his life. And uh but just a a brilliant mind when it comes to this stuff. Um, I I I tend to listen more than speak when we talk when we discuss these kinds of things, but she I mean that's reckless to come out and and hand in just 600 and 600 odd of of signatures over your total her um Walsh. Walsh. Um if the the guarantee should have been 20 20,000. Yeah. For her. Yeah. Now, does does Bronky Now he's apparently paid back $15,000. Shouldn't he be fined or or charged more? I mean, this is defrauding somebody out of the electoral process. Shouldn't Should shouldn't Shouldn't he be paying at least the 35 grand back? Are there criminal charges for this? I I would think so. I would think he'd be looking at some criminal charges. Are they Are they investigating? Maybe not because it's Republican. I don't know. In Massachusetts, I But if this was um let's say let's say um John Mitchell was was was going for or or Mark Montgum was going for the governors, right? and and then he hired somebody that defrauded him out of I mean that'd be a story. Yeah, it would. As a result, a local guy is going to benefit. Sean Oliver, a city councelor for New Bedford, will be the only Republican on the ballot. And Mike Manugg, um he's got an uphill battle, but Mora Hilly's making it easier by the month. I mean, she continues to to just be her crazy self. And hopefully Manugg can can message and get it out. We don't know if he can win a statewide election yet. He hasn't he hasn't proven it yet. Uh short sleeve is still hanging in there. He he seems to think he has a chance despite the polls. And Sean Oliver is with him. Like I said, I think there's going a chance that Shawn Oliver is going to have to adjust his messaging now about Manog since it's probably going to be the case that he'll be running with him, not against him, between September and November. Yeah. Yeah. So he'll have a chance to adjust, but I would start to focus more on more if I were him and not so much on Manugg at this point. Despite I'm sure short sleeves directions, I think he should he has a much much much better chance of being relevant in Massachusetts politics than short sleeve at this point. And look, I like shortsleeve. I don't I'm not saying he's not um doesn't have good policies, doesn't have a good platform. No problem with any of that. I just don't see it. I don't it's very un it's very hard to see him winning. Yeah. I if right right now I I think it's really tough for either short sleeve or Manog to win. Ken, well we don't know what Manog is a billionaire. We don't know what kind of messaging he can produce. I mean he could flood the airwaves with a lot of money and and really go after Mora Hilly and there's a lot of things to go after. So I I think I think we don't know what he's capable of yet. I'm hopeful that he understands what he needs to do. Come he comes out soon, Ken. Uh, well, first he's going to win the primary. No, I Yeah, but I know he's he's more focused on Healey than shortsleeve. Short sleeve is going to he's he's trailing, so he has to go after Manoga a little bit. I I just don't at some point we got to unify the Republican party. Um, maybe next time, Mr. Shortsleeve. I don't see it for you. Uh, I hope I hope you uh get behind Manoga at some point. If unless you have something that's going to destroy his candidacy, I would advise you to unify the party and begin this process of going after a Democratic governor in a Democratic state like Massachusetts. I haven't I haven't seen I haven't seen Manoga out there, though. Again, it's a strange dynamics, isn't it? The lieutenant governor uh is secured for November for the Republicans. the the neither neither of these uh gubernatorial candidates has secured anything yet. But but Sean Oliver is going to be on the ballot in November and um he'll be but does he have to step down as city council if that happens? I think he does, right? He must. I don't know. They they um I think I think BSM ran a story about how what what's the ruling on that? Can Can he be Can he still be a city councelor if he wins? I don't think so. I don't think he should either. I think um because because now because that'd be a special election uh seat, too. Canon if if if the Republicans win can well at his age right and if he were to be the lieutenant governor you could be very quickly on a short list for for the governor's position at some point. I mean given his age is a long time for him to build his brand. He's off to a this is a great opportunity for him. short sleeve uh may have created uh a future star here out of out of nowhere, right? We don't even know about yet. Well, I mean, we're start like like if if you're a resident of the city, you're you're finally you're seeing it with Well, it's a very thin bench. Uh the Republican party has a very thin bench when you think of gubernatorial candidates. Um, you know, you had your Welds, you had your Bakers. Romney come out of nowhere, but Romney's won because Shannon O'Brien was a nut job. But, um, you know, Charlie Bakers don't fall off of trees. And so, looking forward, you don't see a lot of star power in the Republican party in Massachusetts, right? Scott Brown's not even here. He's up in New Hampshire. Yeah. And Yeah. And if you look at And if you look at Scott the race in New Hampshire, he's he's got a tough race. Ken Cunnu Senunu. He used to be the governor. uphill. Uh was he the governor of New Hampshire or was he our senator? No, I think I think he was the governor and his dad was the governor and then worked for the Reagan administration. Um I mean that's that's a powerful name in New Hampshire, but Brown probably going to be a three-time loser now, which which is really the that's the last nail in the coffin politically normally. I don't think he comes back to Massachusetts. I think um I think he likes it up there. But uh just getting back to Oliver, uh if let's say Manog's the governor, right, and they and it goes swimmingly, you know, Manog's a billionaire, how long is he going to want to stay in office? And then who would be the air apparent? Oliver would be Sean Oliver as the next governor representing the Republicans. If if and if the state has run well under Manog and things are going well, how I mean the independents are going to go with Shawn Oliver, right? I mean, uh, you know, dep as long as he doesn't blow it with with something with a remark or who knows. Yeah, we got we gota first first get a prime. We got the primary, Ken, cuz Oh, it's a long way to go. This is a hypothetical for sure. But I really think Manugg with the money he has could pull an upset with with Haley given given the the problems in her decision-m over the years. And the the funny thing is uh they compared their signatures and each list has the same people in the same exact order. So come on. Oh gosh. He wanted I I think the reason the reason why he picked Oliver was to get somebody from the south coast. Well, how much how much does that benefit the Republican party that a city councelor could be the lieutenant governor in a very liberal Democratic city like New Bedford? I bet it affects it somewhat. Yes. Right. Because the county, Bristol County probably will go red overall, but New Bedford and Fall River will will uh be blue. Yeah. So that could put a dent in that that could you could really see some significant movement there. Yeah. Changes in and like George Bush would say strategery. Not not not not in Far River though, Ken. Um because I think I think you gain you gain a little bit more more red in the New Buffett area because he's from New Bedford. Ken. True. No, I think it Right. Right. I think it impacts New Bedford, New Bedford politics more, but I think Fall River likes the idea of a South Coast guy uh being in the thick of things to some degree, at least for the independents. Not saying you're going to see a swath of, you know, a significant percentage of Democrats voting for him, but it's the independents that you really want to count on going in that direction. That's what really makes a difference. Um it is 11:30 here on the Ken Pitman show and uh we're just yeah we just the more we think about this here my thinking is that there's a path for Sean Ellard to be very relevant uh in Massachusetts politics and again if Manugg becomes the governor and runs the state well you could be looking at the air apparent Sean Oliver to be next governor from New Bedford. You you you've got to come up with a lot more than that because every one of them is going to be challenges. The people are being paid to challenge every signature. Wait, I got to challenge that because how do you know for sure that's happening? I know from people that live in the house that are sick of it, that are disgusted. I know the manager's gone to the the owner and tried to get these people out. He's got one under getting ready to be evicted, but until it goes through, he's in there making his money. It's hard to evict somebody. Now, this fell, this young man came out of his house with a kitchen knife and decided he was going to attack somebody and he came toward me. I guess I was the only white and I was also the only female. That's the one you attack, right? I I I'm not qualified. He came at me, he knocked me down and then he ran back. Did you file a report? Well, wait a minute. And then as I was trying to get over being Yeah, that that gets your adrenaline going. He comes out again. Everybody moves back and he's attacking me. He puts a knife to my throat. Now I dropped down and I checked him a spot that he should have something that would hurt and he took off. He was fine after that in his house. The police show up. It took him 20 minutes to make it to the west end. I can get to the north end from my house without speeding and hitting all the lights in six minutes. this guy. It took three cops 20 minutes to get here from the first attack until after because he was called the first after the first attack. The police were called. Now, what kind of justice is it when a policeman comes up to me and says, "So, you went in his land?" I said, "No, I didn't. I went on the sidewalk. I never went in his property." What What did you do? You You really I was a bad guy. Well, hold on. What? What did you You went in front of his home and what were you yelling at him or something? No, he was screaming for three nights. We haven't slept. We hadn't slept in this neighborhood in this corner. This corner. You hadn't slept because of his screaming. I'm going to die. I'm going to die. I want to die. All right. All right. I get that. Out of his lungs. So, you were outside? I went over and I said, "Hey, cut it out. We want to sleep here at night. Cut it out." What time was this? A day. What time of day? Middle of the afternoon. About I think it was about 3:00. You wanted to sleep in the middle of the afternoon. No. Take a nap. I'm 75. I take a nap. Yes. Especially when I don't sleep at night. All right. Well, no. I'm just saying the noise ordinance is a different day and night as you know. I know. But they don't they don't do much about the no noise ordinance either. So, you know, our policemen have no power and they know it. So, I'm I'm I'm just Yeah, I'm flabbergasted. Did you report that he came at you with a knife? You were assaulted. That's aggravated assault. Yes. And it's it's a felony charge because not only am not only is it aggravated assault with intent because he put it to my throat on a senior citizen, bruised me on a senior citizen that's a disabled veteran. I'm 100% service connected veteran. Right. Now, this I go to court for a for a uh the police didn't give me any information. I had no information on his name. I only knew the the house in the apartment that he came from. So, I got the rest of the information I needed from a friend that lives in that house. Okay. Now, the police are supposed to give you all the information to take for a restraining order. Exactly. They didn't cuz you knew the address. They didn't care. Wow. They had him. He was calm. They brought He was in his house for 30 minutes. They brought a social worker there who walked into my house without permission. Just walked up the stairs and opened the door and walked in. Come on. I went I was waiting to talk. I I went to the door and said, "Get the hell out of my house. I'm sorry you don't come in here. This is my country. You want a passport? You bring a warrant." Well, passport to get in my house. I have so many questions here. One of them um arrested him. They took him to his The social worker felt he needed to be put back on his meds. I talked to the policeman. I said, "What?" Because he apologized with the way that he treated me when he first got to the scene. Yeah. And I appreciate that. That was an officer Lawrence, I think his name was. None of them would give me a card. Didn't have cards. All right, that's fine. But the thing that got me is he said he's going to get back on his meds and he'll be back when he's when they feel that he has calmed down. I still haven't calmed down. So he was he was sectioned. He was sectioned. Mhm. Okay. And he'll be back and charges will be pressed or not? They said they're bringing charges, but not to expect anything because after all, it was a mental health problem. No, it wasn't. It was his choice to stop his meds. Well, I mean, you could say that about a lot of homeless people. Mental health problem. Yeah, that's a tricky situation. However, criminal behavior is criminal behavior. I mean, that's um that should not be left up to It won't be either. The judge is going to have to decide if this is going to stick or not. That's right. But it's wrong. He should be taken to federal court, not the district court. Federal court. So, he took a knife to the sidewalk and knocked you down and come at you twice, you're saying? Yep. Put the knife to my throat and and bruised me and cut me. How old is this guy? In his 20s. Okay. He's a So, he's a He's an adult. Yes, he assaulted a senior citizen with a weapon is what you're saying. So, yes, he did. All right. Do you have any court date? Yeah, I I don't have a court date. No, because they feel that he'll be put out. This is what the policeman said. He'll probably they'll probably uh vacate the charges when he is back to normal. So, I'm supposed to stay in a house that I've lived in for 32 years so that a kid whose parents don't want him because his uncle showed up before the No, let's take the keep the His parents don't want him. Let's keep the personal remarks out of this. The thing is, why don't they keep him in in in Dartmouth where his parents are? Yeah, I'm not qualified to speak. Dump him in New Bedford. However, that's what people are doing. My my concern though is that uh you could be exposed to the same threat without any consequences on his end. That's exactly right. So, and I'm supposed to feel safe again. I would advise you not today. Well, hold on. I would like I walked around putting certain putting uh uh various weapons various not weapons but I can use them as such poles metal poles around places in my yard so that if he comes at me I can but I I would advise you not to confront him anymore. I'm not going to No, I don't want to confront him. It's too unable to stay away from me. I don't want to have to read about you. So, um, well, I tell you what, you almost did the other day. Yeah. Because none of our brave men in this neighborhood that were all on the block watching. Anybody film it? You know, in today's day and age, one came to help me. Did anybody film it? Yes, it was filmed on a ring on a a ring uh bell. The assault The assault is documented. Okay. I didn't see it. I just know the policeman looked at it and he said, "We'll use that." Uh, you should secure a copy for yourself. How? Who Whose building is it? It's my neighbor on the other side. I would ask for a copy. I don't know how to I don't know how to do that. I would say as the victim, I would like to see if you'd be willing to give me a copy. Okay, I'll ask. And I would do it sooner than later before it gets over overlapped and disappears. Yeah, I agree. Okay, I'll do that. But the thing is, we have no justice. We have no protection. Well, let's see what happens here. Now, you have expectations based on the words of an officer or your understanding of what he said. But that doesn't mean that's going to be the outcome. Let's hold off on that just for just now because the judge was on my side when I went and saw the judge for the restraining order. Well, it shouldn't happen anyway. And he wants me to come in again on the second if I still feel the same way. That doesn't And you know what? If if that individual if all things are as you say and the individual came at a police officer, he would have been shot. Exactly. All right. I appreciate the call.
