The University of Rhode Island was placed on lockdown Thursday when reports of a gunman were called into police. 

Update 2:20pm - From the URI Facebook Page: The Kingston campus lock-down has ended. State police have cleared Chafee Hall. The investigation has revealed that at no time was there a gun or an active shooter on the campus. Everyone can resume their normal activities. Shuttles and RIPTA will resume shortly. Classes will resume on Friday, April 5.

Update 2:14pm - According to R.I. State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell there is no evidence that a gunman or shooter was ever on the campus. Though O'Donnell says they won't call the incident a hoax either, says WPRI. Police have confirmed that a nerf toy gun was recovered in Chafee Hall, but that is all.

Update 1:24pm - From the URI Facebook: Update: State police are clearing Chafee Hall room by room. Instructions are to remain indoors until further notice.The campus is not cleared yet.

According to WPRI, the possible gunman was seen around noon. The police are on the scene of the school, and no victims or incident has been reported as of yet. The school has urged all students, staff and faculty to take shelter to avoid danger.
