UPDATE (7:31 p.m.): Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe has informed reporters both officers are expected to survive. Reports indicate one officer was shot in the chest and abdomen, most of which was absorbed by his bulletproof vest, and he is hospitalized but awake and alert. The other officer suffered a deep graze by a bullet in the head but has already been released from the hospital. The suspect was also shot multiple times and is reportedly in police custody.

FALMOUTH — Massachusetts State Police have confirmed that two Falmouth Police officers, as well as one suspect, were shot during an incident this afternoon in the Cape Cod town.


Two medflight helicopters later arrived on scene to transport the victims, while residents were told to shelter in place. Area police departments are assisting and a heavy police presence has been reported in the area of the reported shooting.
