Two men are dead following an early morning crash on Route 24 in Fall River.

Massachusetts State Police say the crash took place around 1:35 a.m. Sunday near Exit 8A.

A preliminary investigation has determined that the 2003 Mercury was driving on the northbound side when it struck a tree after travelling off the right side of the roadway.

The driver, a 36-year-old man from Providence RI, and a passenger, a 23-year-old man from Providence RI, were taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

There was another 23-year-old passenger who was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

The incident is being investigated with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Bristol County Detectives.

Fall River Fire and EMS, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation also assisted on scene.

State Police say the victims’ identities are being withheld pending notification of family.
