Two Dead and Officer Wounded in Brockton Shooting Standoff
BROCKTON — Two people are dead and one police officer has been injured after an hourslong standoff with a gunman in Brockton last night.
Multiple news outlets report Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz as saying the gunman shot the officer four times, including in his bulletproof kevlar vest, before turning the gun on himself.
The police officer was taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, while the gunman was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Brockton Police were called to a home on Taber Avenue at around 5:45 p.m. Thursday for reports of shots fired.
There, they encountered the gunman, who ultimately barricaded himself inside the house.
During an investigation, authorities discovered another man dead from gunshot wounds in an SUV nearby.
Attempts to negotiate with the gunman were unsuccessful and Cruz said that at around 9:30 p.m. he shot himself outside the home.
No one involved in the incident has yet been identified.
