Some super heroes don't have capes. In today's muddled times, we hear the word hero a lot. The news media throws the word around as if it is an everyday term. To better understand what a heroic quality is, it may be better to describe what a hero is not. All the time, we see people on TV talk about athletes and celebrities as being heroes, but are they really?

Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School's George Heath is a true hero. During the recent Silver City Galleria rampage, at one of the restaurants, George Heath was murdered while trying to protect his wife and other patrons. Good Samaritans that perish while helping others or who risk their lives to save other lives is a hero.

A hero isn't measured by the size of his strength, but the strength of his heart. People have their own ideas of who can be called a hero. Whoever those people classified as heroes may be, the term hero should not be used lightly. It must be reserved for only those who truly deserve it. I have a hero. I call him George Heath.
