Thursday was a day for fires in New Bedford.  Firefighters spent several hours Thursday afternoon dousing a smokey blaze in a three-story tenament at 141 Peckham Street. District Chief David Cooper says the fire started on the third floor...

Cooper says it took about 20 minutes to put the fire out, but then fire crews had to make sure the fire didn't extend into the walls of the apartment. The District Chief says one firefighter suffered a back injury and was taken to St. Lukes Hospital. He estimated damage at around $10,000.

Also, a truck fire on North Front Street Thursday spread to a nearby garage. Cooper says damage to the garage was minimual, but the truck was a total loss.

And early Thursday, a warehouse at Beacon and Van Buren Streets was destroyed by fire. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
