Two people were stabbed to death by a 28-year-old Taunton man, who was shot and killed at the Silver City Galleria.

Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn held a press conference outside the Taunton Police Station Tuesday night. Quinn says the deceased suspect, Arthur DaRosa of Taunton, was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Myricks St. in Taunton around 7pm.

DaRosa left his vehicle and entered a nearby home, stabbing two women inside. One of the victims, and 80-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries. The other is being treated for life-threatening injuries at Morton Hospital in Taunton.

Shortly after, DaRosa drove to the Silver City Galleria, crashing his vehicle into the front entrance of Macy's. DA Quinn says DaRosa assaulted several people inside the department store before heading into Bertucci's Restaurant inside the mall. Once inside, DaRosa stabbed four more people. One of them, a 56-year-old man, has died. The other victims are being treated to Morton Hospital.

"During the incident in Bertucci's, an off-duty deputy sheriff intervened and shot Mr. DaRosa once," Quinn said. "Mr. DaRosa was rushed to Morton Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead."

Taunton Mayor Tom Hoye offered praise for the off-duty officer.

"If it wasn't for his heroic actions, there could've been more loss of life here this evening," said Hoye.

Quinn declined questions from the press and did not offer a motive for DaRosa's deadly rampage.

Spokesman Greg Milliote said they don't believe any of the attacks to have been targeted.

The crimes are under investigation.
