The Last Supermoon of the Year Is This Week
January’s “Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse” got a lot of attention. The name itself was enough to spark intrigue. Now, March’s supermoon is taking the spot-moon-light, if you will.
The Full Worm Moon (admittedly, not as great a name as January’s) will take place on Wednesday, March 20, and is also known as the Crow Moon, Sap Moon, Sugar Moon, and Lenten Moon. March 20 is also the first official day of spring. So, the Full Worm Moon is the last full moon of winter and technically signals the start of spring. #WinterIsGoing
One of the signs that spring is finally here is when the earthworms come up from the ground, which is how this moon earned its name. This full moon will also be a supermoon, which means it will be as close to the Earth as possible and appear much bigger to us.
This is the third and FINAL supermoon for the rest of the year. So, mark your calendars and set aside some time to take it in. Optimal viewing will be Wednesday, March 20 at 9:43 pm Eastern Time. This is a great way to welcome spring! Get some ice cream to make the occasion extra special.
