Swansea Man Identified in Fatal Boating Incident in Taunton River
FALL RIVER (WBSM) — The Bristol County District Attorney's Office has identified the individual who drowned Wednesday in the Taunton River as Ronald Botehlo, 73, of Swansea.
The incident happened on the morning of June 19 when officials received a distress call around 6:40 a.m.
According to reports, Botelho and his brother were fishing in the Taunton River when their propeller got caught in the rope.
While trying to free the propeller, the vessel started taking water, which caused both men to end up in the river.
One of the men was able to grab a flotation device, but the D.A.'s Office said Botelho could not stay afloat.
First responders removed Botelho from the water and he was transported to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
