Nearly one year after a hit-and-run driver took the life of an 85-year-old Taunton man, police are again asking for tips from the public.

On Nov. 6, 2019, at around 5:30 p.m., Jose Ferreira was walking in the area of 319 Middleboro Ave. when he was struck and killed by a vehicle. The driver did not stay at the scene. Police responded to a call and found the man lying in the roadway. He was rushed to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At the time of the crash, police said they were looking for a GMC Sierra that may have sustained front-end damage as a result of a crash, and said the vehicle may have fled westbound on Middleboro Avenue. However, in a media release sent Tuesday, Taunton police did not include a vehicle description.

The Taunton Police Department is actively investigating the incident along with Massachusetts State Police, said Taunton Police Chief Edward J. Walsh. Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Brock Morrisetts at (518) 961-1904 or Taunton Police Det. Robert Swartz at (508) 821-1475.

"Police remind residents that even seemingly minor details could be helpful to investigators," Taunton police said.
