UPDATE (7:57 p.m.): The Bristol County District Attorney's Office has announced that Taunton Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to their office and Homicide Unit prosecutors are actively investigating the homicide.

At around 3:45 pm today Taunton Police responded to the area of 33 White Street for a report of an ongoing altercation. When first responders arrived on the scene, they located a male victim who was bleeding from an apparent stab wound. The victim, a 50-year-old Taunton man, was rushed to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 4:20 pm.

The investigation is active and ongoing, and no further information can be released at this time.

Once the victim's next of kin has been formally notified of the death or more information on the case can be shared publicly, the D.A.'s office will send out a follow-up media advisory.

UPDATE (7 p.m.): Bristol County District Attorney's Office spokesman Gregg Miliote has confirmed to WBSM News that this stabbing was a homicide and that the victim was a 50-year-old Taunton man. This story will be updated.

TAUNTON — Taunton Police are investigating after a man was stabbed in that city this afternoon.

According to Chief Edward Walsh, Taunton Police responded to a home on White Street at approximately 3:40 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located a man who had injuries from at least one stab wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital.

Police say the incident remains under investigation.
