Taunton Man Drowns at Ellis Haven Campground in Plymouth
PLYMOUTH — Chief G. Edward Bradley reports that the Plymouth Fire Department responded to a fatal drowning at the Ellis Haven Campground Friday night.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on July 24, the Plymouth Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a possible drowning at the Ellis Haven Campground in the area of Federal Furnace Road.
The Plymouth Fire Department immediately responded to the area. Firefighters entered the water to search for the victim and also requested a dive team. The Plymouth Fire Department’s Dive Team arrived and entered the water at 7:55 p.m.
Firefighters from Engine 2 and a Plymouth Police officer recovered a male victim at the same time, 7:55 p.m., about 100 feet from the shoreline in 15 feet of water.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The victim’s name is not being released pending notification of next of kin. Media outlets have reported that the victim was a Taunton man in his mid-20s.
The Plymouth Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
The Kingston Fire Department provided station coverage for Station 2 during the incident.
