A Taunton man is facing charges after he allegedly hit a police officer with a cellphone.

Police tell the Taunton Gazette the incident took place Friday morning inside a bathroom at the Taunton Trial Court building on Broadway.

25-year-old Robert Damon is accused of sucker-punching the officer after being told to shut off his phone because it was playing offensive music.

Damon was then arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct.

The officer sustained a cut above the eye but his injury isn't considered serious.
