Taunton’s Former Pizzeria Uno Will Become Free Play Bar Arcade
TAUNTON (WBSM) — A space that has sat empty for nearly five years is about to get an “extra life” as the former Pizzeria Uno in Taunton is set to become the latest location for Free Play Bar Arcade.
Jay Pateakos of the Taunton Office of Economic and Community Development made the announcement today on his LinkedIn page.
“Oh boy, this one took a few months,” he wrote, regarding the plans coming together for Free Play to open its third location. The Taunton spot, which will be on Route 140 across from Home Depot, will join Free Play’s other locations in Providence in Worcester.
What Is Free Play Bar Arcade?
It’s exactly what it sounds like – a bar that is also an arcade. However, unlike other arcade bars that have you pay per game, Free Play collects a cover charge that allows you to play all the games – hence the “Free Play” name – without using coins or tokens.
The cover charge will be $7 on weekdays and $12 on weekends. The weekend price may even be cheaper if there is no live entertainment such as karaoke, a band or a DJ.
According to Pateakos, Free Play in Taunton will have a total of 105 video games “including retro games, pinball, Skee-Ball, dancing games and more.”
Who Can Go to Free Play Bar Arcade in Taunton?
It will be 21-plus most of the time. There will be “family day” hours on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when children will be allowed, and then Free Play will close for an hour at 4 p.m. before reopening for those 21 and over.
It will also host birthday parties during family hours.
What Will the Hours Be at Free Play Bar Arcade?
It will be open days a week: Mondays from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m.; Tuesday through Friday from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m.; Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for family time and then 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. for those 21 and over.
Doors will close at midnight and games will be turned off at 1 a.m.
Will There Be Food at Free Play Bar Arcade?
In addition to having a full bar, Free Play will also offer “handcrafted flatbread pizza,” which runs about $10-$11 on its Providence menu.
Some of the offerings include cheese, pepperoni, chicken bacon ranch, Buffalo chicken and “The Laz,” which features pepperoni and bacon.
When Will Free Play Bar Arcade Open in Taunton?
Pateakos said Free Play is hoping to be open by October 1.
