Fall River Man Charged in Taunton Fatal Crash
FALL RIVER (WBSM) — A Fall River man has been charged in connection with the September 15 fatal crash on Route 44 in Taunton that claimed the life of Mallory Humphreys.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced today that Andrew Sousa, 27, has been charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.
Sousa was arraigned today in Taunton District Court and bail was set at $5,000 with conditions of release including abstaining from alcohol with random screens, not to operate a motor vehicle and weekly reporting to the probation department.
Sousa was allegedly driving a gray 2015 Infiniti on September 15 when at approximately 1:24 a.m., the vehicle rear-ended a tractor trailer in the area of 608 Winthrop Street in Taunton.
Humphreys, 24, of Taunton, was riding in the passenger seat of his vehicle and died as a result of the crash.
The driver of the tractor trailer, a 39-year-old Brockton man, was not injured.

The D.A.’s Office said the criminal charges against Sousa “come after an extensive investigation by prosecutors and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to District Attorney Quinn’s office into the facts and circumstances surrounding the crash.”
An Andrew Sousa of Fall River was also arrested on charges of driving under the influence in Westport back in 2021.
Sousa’s next court date is November 15.
