TAUNTON - The man accused of stealing a very valuable diamond in Taunton Monday failed to show up for his arraignment.

The Taunton Gazette reports an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Tyreek Fagan of Mattapan has been issued after he defaulted on a court appearance Tuesday in Taunton District Court.

Fagan was arrested Monday after allegedly asking a clerk at Hannoush Jewelers if he could see the most expensive diamond in the store at the Silver City Galleria mall, and then running away with the $54,000 stone when the clerk was distracted. Fagan was arrested a short time later, but was released after his girlfriend posted his $1,000 bail.

Fagan's bail has been revoked and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.

The diamond was not recovered upon Fagan's initial arrest. It's unclear if the diamond is still missing.
