Taunton Cemetery Attempted Rape Suspect Arrested
TAUNTON — Police in Taunton have arrested a city man accused of attempting to rape a woman in Mayflower Hill Cemetery over the weekend.
William Perez, 21, is charged with indecent assault and battery, kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and other assault charges, according to a release from the department.
Police said Perez allegedly attacked a woman at the cemetery on Saturday afternoon and forced her to leave with him.
Officers were sent to Mayflower Hill Cemetery on Broadway at around 2:40 p.m. Saturday for multiple reports of a possible rape.
Police were told that an assailant had attacked the woman and forcibly took her with him outside the cemetery before fleeing on foot.
The victim was injured, according to police.
She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment and later released.
Officers searched the area around the cemetery with help from Raynham police and the Raynham K-9 unit, according to the release.
Perez was later identified as the suspect, and he was arrested at his home on Broadway on Sunday.
He is set to be arraigned Monday at Taunton District Court.
