New Bedford and other communities should follow the lead of Wareham and Mashpee and ban the 50ml 'nip' bottles of alcohol that litter the landscape.

Falmouth and Chelsea have already banned sales of the tiny liquor bottles.

While there is no solid evidence that discarded masks pose a health threat, they do threaten the environment.

The measure would add nips to the list of containers covered by the state's bottle bill.
