Thousands turned out downtown on Sunday morning for the 41st annual New Bedford Half Marathon, hosted by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the City of New Bedford.
In an appearance with WBSM's Ken Pittman, race director Dan McCarthy of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick said race day is a great day for New Bedford, as it's a chance to show off the city for people who come from all over the country and the world to take part in the race.
"Out of all the reindeer's you know you're the mastermind - run, run Rudolph - Santa ain't too far behind!" I took a little artistic license to change a word from Chuck Berry's classic Christmas rocker to bring attention to one of the most colorful events in New Bedford this season...
It takes a lot to win the Boston Marathon. It takes even more to win that race a second time. Geoff Smith did that, and he's now got a great charity event promoting the sport that he helped make great.
