A legislative panel is traveling around the state gathering public comments on Massachusetts gun laws.

The committee was at the Fall River Police Dept. on Monday, and heard from Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter.  The D-A wants to see more thorough background checks at the local level to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.....

Sutter also wants a mechanism to gather data on where illegal guns come from.  He says that  information would be invaluable to law enforcement.
