Police have arrested a New Bedford man following a 90 minute standoff Tuesday in the West End.

Det. Capt. Steve Vicente tells WBSM News, Police were called to Vine and Durfee Streets around 12:30pm on a report of a domestic disturbance, a man striking his sister in the face.

When police arrived however, the man locked himself inside the apartment, and warned Police not to come in, saying he was "locked and loaded."

Vicente says Det. Christopher Cotter and Officer Scott Alves began talking with the man through the door, and around 2pm the suspect surrendered without incident.

Police say 42 year old John Darren Young of Vine St. was charged with Domestic Assault and Battery.

He'll be arraigned Wednesday in New Bedford District Court.
