There will be additional security procedures in place at B.M.C. Durfee High School  in Fall River following a lockdown on Monday.

School officials say that at around 9:30 a.m. a group of students informed school administrators about a screen shot of a firearm with the caption "Life at Durfee" that had been circulating on the social media site, Snap Chat.

Police were called and an investigation began which determined that the student suspected of having the firearm, identified by Fall River Police as a 15-year-old male student at Durfee High School, had left school grounds.

Officers then determined that the student was located in the Pleasant View Housing Development and a BB Handgun was found in the students backpack.

It was later determined to be the BB gun used in the photo and the student was placed under arrest.

The lockdown was lifted and parents were able to dismiss their children at their discretion, school continued for students who opted to stay.

Officials say the Fall River Public Schools Code of Conduct will be enforced "to its fullest extent."

Beginning Tuesday morning students and staff will only be allowed to enter the building through the Main Entrance until further notice.

In addition students will be required to wear ID's at all times and metal detectors and wands will be used upon entering the building.

There will also be an increased police presence at the school.

The student is facing the following charges: Carry/Possessing a Dangerous Weapon on School Grounds, Minor in Possession of a BB Gun, Disturbing the Peace While Armed, and Disturbing a School Assembly.
