Storm Will Bring a Wet, Windy Christmas to the SouthCoast

It’s safe to say nobody was dreaming of a wet and windy Christmas, but it appears that will be the case for the SouthCoast.

A Christmas Eve storm will bear down on the region with strong winds and heavy rain, and could potentially cause power outages for the holiday.

Eversource sent out robocalls to customers Wednesday morning advising them of the potential for outages, which the recording said could last a couple of days.

According to ABC6 StormTracker Meteorologist Tim Studebaker, the storm will peak during the overnight hours of Thursday into Friday morning. During that time, strong, gusty winds could cause damage and outages, and the heavy rain combined with melting snow could lead to “minor flooding concerns,” Studebaker said in his forecast.

The temperature is predicted to be 56 degrees both Thursday and Friday, with a low temp on Christmas Eve of 48 degrees.

While the storm will pull away late on Christmas Day, overnight temperatures Friday into Saturday are expected to be in the 20s, leading to icy conditions Friday night into Saturday morning.
