There's nothing like a cold, frosty pint of your favorite beer. For me, it's an IPA all day and I'll admit, I'm a sucker for a clever graphic or catchy name on the can.

With so many local craft brews to choose from, it can be tough, but the team at Stellwagen Beer Company in Marshfield, Massachusetts has a beer that locals (especially on the SouthCoast) will love.

Why ‘Cape Traffic’ IPA Resonates With Massachusetts Locals

Cape Traffic is the latest beer I snagged from the cooler, and as you may assume, it's inspired by "a long Friday afternoon sitting in traffic at the Sagamore counting down the miles just to be able to see the metal arches of the bridge," Eddie Letsche said.

Letsche is the Head of Sales & Brand Development at Stellwagen and he shared some insight on what their popular beer is all about.

"We love Cape Traffic! The beer. Definitely not the bridge traffic," he said. "This will be the fifth summer season doing Cape Traffic, and each of the last three years we have had to double production in that time to meet increased demand."

What Does Cape Traffic IPA Taste Like?

IPAs are a favorite of mine, but the taste can vary depending on the hops, citrus, etc. that's used to brew each batch. "The flavor profile is definitely on par with a hoppy and hazy New England IPA," Letsche said.

The Tropical Hops Behind Cape Traffic IPA

"What makes Cape Traffic a little different than any beer we do is the addition of Sabro hops which give a distinct coconut flavor to pair with the citrusy juiciness and pineapple notes," he said. "The other hops added are Mosaic, Citra, and Simcoe, which all add a tropical balance of flavor to our summer crusher."

It's not the only brew that's been inspired by the area.

How South Shore Culture Inspires Stellwagen Beer Company

"I feel like all of our beers are locally themed with some type of South Shore pun or play on words. Beach Pale Ale is another summer favorite at the brewery and down Cape," Letsche said. "Mostly everything we do is inspired by our coastal New England roots."

Curious to give it a try? I was and I really liked it. Cape Traffic is available locally, so keep an eye out for it on your next beer run. Cheers!
