UMass Dartmouth got a visit Monday from the state's new Secretary of Education Matthew Malone.

He met with student and faculty leaders as part of a tour across Massachusetts' public higher education landscape. And according to published reports he was visiting to see what higher education is all about. He was drumming up support for the Governor's proposal to greatly increase education spending which calls for the state to spend an additional $1 billion over four years.

The spending measures include a commitment to fund 50 percent of the UMass, State University and Community College System education budgets.
