Splitting Hairs over Dictators and Mandates [OPINION]
The Texas Supreme Court has come to the rescue, ordering the release of a Dallas salon owner who was tossed in jail for refusing to apologize to a judge for being "selfish" by reopening her salon in defiance of a statewide lockdown on non-essential businesses. Shelley Luther told judge Eric Moye that she would not apologize and that she needed to reopen so that she and her employees could afford to feed their kids. So selfish of them to want to eat.
After all, with a pandemic raging, who would even be so self-centered to think about going to a hair salon anyway? People are dying here and Shelley Luther is concerned about cutting hair?
Let's not forget that the biggest little pandemic dictator of them all, Chicago's Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot, got caught getting her own locks trimmed at a salon about a month ago when her stylist ratted her out on social media. This after Lightfoot ordered hair salons and barbershops to remain closed while classifying them as nonessential. Lightfoot even taped a public service announcement declaring that "getting your roots done is not essential."
When she got caught, Lightfoot didn't fall on her sword. No, the little dictator simply defended her actions.
“I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye,” she told reporters. “I take my personal hygiene very seriously. As I said, I felt like I needed to have a haircut. I’m not able to do that myself, so I got a haircut. You want to talk more about that?”
Lightfoot went on to explain that there are more important things than her double standards.
“I think what really people want to talk about is, we’re talking about people dying here. We’re talking about significant health disparities. I think that’s what people care most about,” Lightfoot said.
Lightfoot has been all over the news lately, threatening to arrest and jail Chicagoans who dare to violate her orders on gatherings public or private. She is a regular jackboot when it comes to dictating rules for everyone else – rules that obviously don't apply to her.
Dictators don't have to play by their own rules. They only dictate them for others to follow or be punished.
Perhaps I am just splitting hairs here, but I find people like Lori Lightfoot to be disgusting.
