A World War II veteran and his grandson shared a special moment during Wednesday night's graduation ceremony at Greater New Bedford Voc Tech High School.

Don Bernier left the school to serve in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He finally received his diploma alongside his grandson, Logan Kilanowich, in the Z Walter Janiack Field House.

Bernier had no idea they would be on stage together...

Bernier served on a carrier ship in the Philippines during the war.

His grandson is following his footsteps and entering the Navy as a communication electrician.

Two other veterans were honored with diplomas during the ceremony.

The 2014 class is also the largest in school history with 497 seniors crossing the stage.
