Hilary Duff Addresses Northeastern Class of 2026

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, graduates of the Northeastern Class of 2026 were addressed by none other than singer, actor and entrepreneur, Hilary Duff.

"I respect all that you've achieved," the former Disney Channel star said, admitting her "formal education ended around third grade."

Her speech, delivered at Fenway Park, not only recognized the grads but also the parents, faculty and staff that played a part in the big day.

"I just can't imagine how rewarding it must be year after year to send such amazing hard-working students and people into the world knowing that you prepared with such care," Duff said. "I am honored to be a part of this moment in time with all of you."

Duff Shares Personal Lessons on Saying No

Her advice? "When the doors start opening, it's very easy to think the right answer is always 'yes'," Duff said.

"For years, I said yes to almost everything because I thought that's what you were supposed to do when you're lucky enough to have opportunities," she said. "Just because something is a good opportunity or a good paycheck it doesn't mean it's right. By simply accepting what the world was offering to me, I was losing my own voice."

A Message About Growth and Self-Discovery

She told the graduates that she took a step back to rebuild herself, pivot and focus on her family. "I realized that saying 'no' wasn't rejection, it was redirection," she said.

Duff assured the Northeastern grads that it's ok to not have everything figured out in the moment. Graduation is so much more than that.

"It's about standing at the edge of something new and choosing what comes next," she said.

"Don't forget to pause and appreciate how far you've come," Duff added. "What you do might change, but who you are doesn't have to."

A Memorable Moment at Fenway Park

After her speech, the president of Northeastern presented Duff with a citation and the Nor’easters, one of Northeastern's a cappella groups, performed a medley of songs including Duff's hit "What Dreams Are Made Of."
