Thanksgiving morning couldn’t have been scripted any better.

Clear skies, crisp air and a field full of local friends ready to keep one of the SouthCoast’s most wholesome traditions alive: the annual two-hand-touch Turkey Bowl.

Even before kickoff, the sidelines filled with supporters bundled up with coffee, cheering on players and showing love for a cause that hit close to home for many involved. This year’s beneficiary, Little Wanderers Sensory Play in Fall River, inspired an outpouring of generosity across the SouthCoast community.

While I ended up on the losing team (Light Blue, represent), the day really wasn’t about the score. It was about giving back.

A Picture-Perfect Morning for a Purpose

Under a bright November sky, the Navy Team edged out the Light Blue Team in a tight 4-3 final. The game’s MVP went to Collin Broyles, who delivered a standout two-touchdown performance along with a clutch interception that shifted the momentum. Cury Deschamps also hauled in a pair of touchdown receptions, helping keep the game close from start to finish.

The real win happened off the field, though.

Community Comes Together for Little Wanderers

Thanks to players, donors and every person who showed up on the sidelines, the 2025 NB Turkey Bowl proudly reached – and surpassed – its fundraising goal, raising $2,000 for Little Wanderers Sensory Play, Fall River’s first indoor sensory-based playroom for kids ages 0-8.

The cause was especially meaningful for lead organizer Sean Cote, whose three-year-old is on the autism spectrum. Little Wanderers has become an important resource for his family and many others in the community, making this year’s effort even more heartfelt.

Tradition, Teamwork and a Whole Lot of Gratitude

What started years ago as a casual pick-up game has grown into something bigger: a Thanksgiving tradition rooted in friendship, fun and service. From NBC10 featuring the Turkey Bowl on the news, to families showing up to cheer with hot chocolate in hand, the turnout far exceeded expectations.

That’s what makes this event special. No matter who scores the touchdowns, the community always wins.
