SouthCoast Air Quality Ozone Alert
SouthCoast residents are being warned about potentially unhealthy air quality today with an alert in place from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. tonight.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs have issued the alert for ground level ozone through much of the state, including Bristol County.
Ozone levels may approach or exceed unhealthy standards for sensitive groups, according to the alert.
This includes people with heart or lung diseases such as asthma as well as children, the elderly, and people who are typically active outdoors.
Those in sensitive groups are advised to take precautions like reducing prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion, taking breaks, keeping relief medicine handy and watching for symptoms like coughing or shortness of breath.
