South Coast Rail Testing Gets Underway With Public Warning
The long-awaited South Coast Rail project is making strides as test trains begin to run along a newly revitalized right-of-way.
The MBTA is conducting trials with commuter rail trains between Middleboro, East Taunton, Freetown, Fall River and New Bedford.
To ensure a smooth transition and prioritize public safety, the MBTA is urging residents to exercise caution around the tracks. The test trains operate at speeds up to 79 mph, a substantial increase from the current 25-mph freight train speeds.
Important Safety Reminders:
- Pedestrian Safety: Be mindful of your surroundings when crossing tracks. Avoid walking on or along the tracks, as it is illegal and dangerous.
- Driver Caution: When driving near railroad crossings, ensure you have ample space to clear the tracks before proceeding. Never stop or park on tracks at grade crossings or anywhere else.
