Somerset Woman Mauled to Death by Dog

SOMERSET — A Massachusetts woman has been mauled to death by her dog as she suffered a seizure.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office said 44-year-old Melissa Astacio's daughter called 911 around 5:20 p.m. on Friday. She said her mother was having a seizure inside their home in Somerset when the family dog​ began to attack.

The dog was still attacking Astacio when emergency responders arrived. Police deployed a Taser on the dog and the victim was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where she died.

The dog has been placed in quarantine. Authorities don't suspect foul play.
