If all goes according to plan, there could soon be a new hibachi restaurant opening in Somerset.

The town's Building Department said the restaurant is planned for 1553 Brayton Point Road, a commercially zoned property that has been vacant for a long time. A department spokesperson told WBSM the property could house a beauty salon or barbershop in addition to the restaurant.

Select Board Chairman Lorne Lawless said the restaurant, with a working name Hibachi Poke Bow, is being developed by Jonathan Hodosh of Hodosh Realty Corp., which has offices in New York and Massachusetts, including Somerset.

"Hibachi has been approved to put their kitchen in on the first floor," Lawless said. "They are working on a plan for a second floor that they will need approval from our Building Department."

The sign on the front of the building suggests the business will be an "express takeout" location.

A Building Department spokesperson confirmed that open permits were issued for the project but that occupancy permits will not be issued yet, pending an inspection and the final approval of a building inspector.

The spokesperson said there is still work to be done before the project is "code-ready." Some of that work may involve installing an elevator.

There is no target date for the proposed new restaurant to open.

A new hibachi restaurant in Somerset would only add to the long list of choices of where to eat.

In my view, there can never be too many restaurants from which to choose.

We'll keep you posted as things develop, and here is wishing Mr. Hodosh lots of luck with this project.
