Somerset Launches Lock Box Program for Emergency Access

SOMERSET (WBSM) -- The Somerset Police Department, in collaboration with the Somerset Council on Aging and TRIAD, has introduced a new Lock Box Program designed to enhance public safety and streamline emergency response efforts.

The program enables emergency responders to gain access to homes without forced entry in situations where people cannot reach the door due to illness, injury or disability. The lock box, securely mounted outside the residence, contains a house key protected by a code accessible only to first responders.

By using the lock box, authorities can avoid damaging property, saving valuable time during emergencies and eliminating the need for officers to remain on the scene to safeguard the home.

Thanks to grant funding secured by TRIAD and the Somerset Council on Aging, the lock boxes will be provided and installed at no cost to residents by the local police and fire departments.
