FREETOWN — Police in Freetown are asking for the public's help finding someone who is damaging homes in one neighborhood with a large-caliber BB gun.

Police wrote in a Facebook post that several Assonet Bay Shores residents have reportedly received property damage to their homes from a large caliber BB projectile.

The incidents have thus far been limited to the Assonet Bay Shores area, according to police.

Although a firearms license is not required for adults in Massachusetts using BB or pellet guns, it is required just over the border in Rhode Island.

Massachusetts state law does prohibit anyone from discharging a BB shot, pellet or other object from an air rifle or BB gun into, from or across public ways including streets and railroad tracks.

Freetown police are asking residents to contact the department with any information that could help with the investigation.

Anyone with information that could assist is asked to email Det. Patrick Lee at plee@freetownpolice.org.
