After beginning the "Discover" feature in January,  Snapchat is taking the plunge and launching a news division, and CNN national political reporter Peter Hamby is leaving the cable news network to join the social media network as Head of News. The Verge reports that Snapchat has moved "aggressively" into news media in the last few months that lets partners like Vice and CNN share stories from the news of the day.

How interested would you be getting your news on Snapchat, that is already curating content provided by its partners to showcase the best stories of the day under the “Discover” section? The company has also been able to monetize it by displaying adds inside the news stories. What's more, the application will be now able to leverage the ‘Snapchat Stories’ feature that allows users to create stories with video clips! It's the wave of the future, and folks like Peter Hamby not only get it, they also lend credence to the potential of taking users to new places - and he can see some application of that with news! Do you think social media platforms are the future for news? Leave me your thoughts.
