WAREHAM — Authorities from state and local agencies are currently investigating skeletal remains discovered in Wareham on Monday.

Wareham Police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the remains, which were found near Cranberry Plaza in East Wareham.

Wareham Police Chief John Walcek says on Monday at approximately 12:13 p.m., patrol officers and detectives responded to an area of thick growth adjacent to the plaza, on the report of possible human remains. The remains were discovered by an individual looking for a lost item.

It is unknown how long the body has been there, as it was concealed by the heavy vegetation.

Local and state police units continue to investigate. No information is being made available at this time.
