Team USA's Simone Manuel looked to be down and out coming up the home stretch of the Women's 100M freestyle competition, Thursday night. Coming out of nowhere, however, she made history.

What's even bigger than Manuel's first ever Olympic gold is the fact that she became the first ever African-American woman to win an individual Olympic swimming medal with the victory.

What a monumental way to take your first trip to the winner's circle.

Manuel was visibly overcome with emotion, after the historic win.
