The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) held its 2026 Draft and the first overall pick has deep ties to Massachusetts. Caroline "KK" Harvey grew up in New Hampshire, but much of her training was done right here in the Bay State.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2026 the 23-year-old hockey player's dreams came true when she was selected by the Vancouver Goldeneyes. Her skills as a defenseman and her achievements in the hockey community made her an instant standout to the league.

Finding Inspiration in the Shadow of Boston Hockey
Raised in Pelham, NH, not far from the Massachusetts border, Harvey was mere miles from the hockey haven that is Boston. Home of the Bruins and some of the most diehard hockey fans you'll ever meet, it was only natural that she caught the skating bug early in life.
Training Like 'The Fighter' in Lowell
Harvey got her start as many New Englanders do, by taking skating lessons at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough. Her off-season training was also deep-rooted in Massachusetts. Harvey incorporated boxing into her workout routine, training at the same facility used in The Fighter. She even caught the eye of Dicky Eklund. Yes, that Dicky Eklund, "The Pride of Lowell, who was portrayed by Christian Bale in the film.
Her years of dedication turned her into a world champion, Olympic gold medalist, and now a No. 1 pick in the PWHL.
