We first introduced Fun 107 fans to Shane McColgan early last year.

The Carver teen was fighting an aggressive form of leukemia called acute myeloid leukemia. We're devastated to report that Shane's brave battle came to an end May 17. The Shane Strong Facebook page broke the horrible news Thursday morning:

After a courageous 505-day fight, Shane passed away just before 10 o'clock last night.  He was surrounded by those who loved him the most, while in the arms of his heartbroken mother.

While his time on earth was cut tragically short, the 16-year-old made quite the impact during his time here. When he was 7 years old, he saw a TV segment discussing the fact that some children go to bed without enough to eat. His aunt, Monica Cole, told us that Shane was so moved by the news that he decided to do something about it.

His family rented a storefront in Carver and launched the Shane Gives Thanks Food Pantry where families in need could "shop" without money or an ounce of shame.  Shane's nana and papa, along with other friends and relatives, managed to keep the food pantry open as much as possible while Shane was in the hospital.

"His legacy of helping others will continue to fill our hearts with love and peace as we celebrate the 16 amazing years we had with him on this Earth as he waits for us in heaven."

Our hearts go out to this boy and his loving family. No parent should know the loss of a child.
