UPDATE (2:58 p.m.): Seekonk Police say the suspect has been identified and the phone has been returned.

On Thursday, July 6 at approximately 4:15 p.m., Seekonk Police Patrolman Steven Fundakowski took a report concerning a cell phone that had been stolen.

The victim, a 15-year-old girl from Seekonk, was accompanied by a parent. The girl reported having been at the Seekonk Walmart, 1180 Fall River Avenue, at about 12 p.m. As is frequently done by many people, the girl placed her iPhone 7 on a shelf near the checkout counter and walked away after completing her transaction. She returned to the store after realizing her phone was missing. She spoke with store management and soon determined the phone had not been turned in and was gone. The phone did not have a locator application and was apparently turned off.

Patrolman Fundakowski conducted a follow-up meeting with Walmart management. Store personnel were able to find video of a man taking the phone from the counter and putting it in his pocket. The man is described as a white male, clean shaven, in his late 30s with a slim build. Video showed the man driving away in a newer white sedan.

Anyone with information on the identity of the man is asked to contact Seekonk Police at (508) 336-8123 or their anonymous tip line at (508) 336-7027, ext. 9. You can also email information to tips@seekonkpd.com.
